Road bikes best for this event

Good evening from Thunder Bay ontario Canada.

 

I just found out about this bike event. I am considering doing it for 2012

 

I would be riding the entire route solo.

 

Just like to ask the room here if the route is well paved. As i would prefer to ride my road bike for the entire course?

 

As i love riding long distances.

Road Bike question

A road bike is best for this event.  Some riders use mountain bikes for one or two legs but solo riding on a mountain bike would not be advised.  Most of the highway has good pavement and about 1/4 has a good paved shoulder.  Leg 5 and 6 are the roughest with chip seal and some potholes.  Leg one will have all new pavement next year.  Leg 2 was paved last year.  Leg 3 and 4 have been paved in the last few years.  Leg 7 and 8 have been paved in the last 5 years, but shoulders are narrow.
